I loved this book. It is a light, fun read. Just a nice, romantic story that is so well written that it draws you in quickly and completely. I was so disappointed when I finished the book, I wanted it to go on longer. Also, this book includes the sexiest non-sex scenes I think I’ve ever read. I hope the author writes more, because I’ll buy and read anything she writes.  – lq

I was pleasantly suprised by this book. I can usually tell where a story might be going but this one took me completely by suprise. The characters were well developed and the storyline was unique. If you think you know where it’s going before the very end, you are in for a big surprise!

I would have given 4 stars if the author was not so long winded at times. Because of that I almost put it down early on. I decided to stay with it to see where it was going and scanned through a number of pages quickly and I’m happy I did. Now I’m looking for a sequel! – MrsOldDuck

Spotlight Book! “Mythical: Heart of Stone” by C.E. Martin

You most definitely will not want to miss this spotlight book! It will make you very glad you don’t live in THIS America!

Download “Mythical: Heart of Stone” NOW!

In a world of magic and monsters, where the superheroes have all retired, the United States depends on the men and women of Detachment 1039 to protect America from the paranormal. Unfortunately, the Detachment’s entire squad of Stone Soldiers, and their leader, have been killed.

Colonel Mark Kenslir wakes up in the Arizona desert, his mortal wounds healed, but with no memory of who killed him. With the help of the teens who found him, Kenslir eventually remembers his last mission: stop a shapeshifter that has been ripping out and consuming the hearts of victims.

Without any weapons, without any support, Kenslir sets out to avenge his men and stop the shapeshifter.

Still not convinced? Just take a look at what this reader had to say:

Five motorbike riders zoom across the desert and find a burnt out boat. With the boat is a scorched and broken corpse. A sudden storm sends the riders back to their camp, leaving the corpse and boat as they found it.

The corpse is soaked by the rain and gradually his wounds fill with stone which then becomes flesh. Once he is fully restored the stone man, now human in appearance, crosses the desert and finds the bikers camp. Josie and Jimmy, two of the bikers, join forces with him and help him regain his memory and fend off his enemies, despite the danger to themselves.

Definitely a science fiction book with a unique premise. Stone men, ordinary humans and a shape shifter all combine to make a good story. Josie and Jimmy, the two main humans, are typical teenagers. He’s fascinated by Josie, she considers him a friend. The stone man is able to reconstitute himself when hit by bullets or knives and even after major attacks on his body. He is both an unusual and well developed character.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. At first slow going, I found it difficult to keep my interest, but I persevered and was glad I did. The more I read the more I got hooked. The excitement builds gradually until it comes to a stupendous climax. It’s certainly worth pushing through to the end as the last few chapters make the slow beginning worthwhile. The end brings the story to a finale, but still leaves hooks to bring the reader back for the sequel. Well done C.E. Martin, a book with a good story and well edited.  – LAS Reviewer

Spotlight Book! “Schrodinger’s Cat” by Eileen Schuh

Don’t miss today’s Spotlight Book! It is a psychological thriller with a five star rating.

Download “Schrodinger’s Cat” NOW

Chordelia, straddling two of the realities proposed in Everett’s Many Worlds Theory of Quantum Physics, has no idea how distorted the line is between choice and fate.

In one of her worlds, Chorie’s young daughter is dying—a drama that quickly contaminates her other, much rosier, reality. Before long, the emotional burden of dealing with two separate lives spawns heated legal battles, endangers her role as mother and wife, and causes people in both universes to judge her insane. As her lives begin to crumble, so does Chorie’s heart and mind.

When Dr. Penny, a man with disturbing, murky, hypnotic eyes offers to rid her of the life that’s causing so much pain, she must decide if she is willing to sacrifice the chance to be with her dying child for the chance to save her marriage and experience happiness.

She thinks she’s planned it well—she’s researched her choices, prepared herself for the consequences, put everything in place. She makes her decision. However….

Life, as it has the propensity to do, strikes back with the dark and unexpected.

Still not convinced? Just listen to what this reviewer had to say:

This is the second novel I have had the pleasure to read by author Eileen Schuh. And while I did enjoy the first book, “The Traz”, which is a young adult story, I must admit I personally found “Schrodinger’s Cat” even better. Of course, that may be because I am a HUGE fan of psychological thrillers, which is what this story really is. Throughout the book, the author keeps you guessing about whether the main character, Chorie, is really traveling between different realities or whether she has just gone insane from the grief of dealing with a daughter who is dying. This story is told masterfully from the beginning to the end, and the end is one that really leaves you thinking. Just like a good episode of “The Twilight Zone”, this story will have you questioning the boundaries of science and reality.  – Maranda Russell

Spotlight Book! “Loud, Disorderly, and Boisterous” by Adam M. Johnson

This Spotlight Book is on sale for Labor Day.  TODAY is the LAST day, so don’t miss out!

Download “Loud, Disorderly, and Boisterous” NOW!

Imagine that you are a dangerously clever, thoroughly over-educated
sixteen year old, who feels wholly disconnected from her current station
in life and rather hates her father. Imagine also that you have the
further misfortune to find yourself alive during the 13th Century, that
your father is the philistine King of a small Central European country,
and that he does not approve of the fact that you can quote Aristotle
more expertly than you can curtsy. Finally to top everything off imagine
that you have just learned that you are to be married off to a German
nobleman who believes that you will make an excellent pawn in an ongoing
struggle to become Holy Roman Emperor…

What do you do?

If your name is Aletheia–first and only daughter of His Majesty Edward
IX, and most indubitably born in the wrong century–you proceed to flee.

If your name is Aletheia you also find yourself embarking on a bizarre
and comic odyssey across perilously chaotic medieval Europe. During her
journey our heroine will encounter cross dressing Romanians, bamboozle
criminally incompetent highwaymen, crush spherically odious tutors
(using only the power of pure logic), and, in at least one desperate
instance, impersonate the Virgin Mary, all in the hopes of reaching a
final destination that is about to be sacked by an army of waylaid
Crusaders…

Still unsure? Just take a look at this review!

I received this book free over Christmas as was pleasantly surprised. Adam M. Johnson’s Loud, Disorderly, and Boisterous is a truly enjoyable read. Landing somewhere between Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galax and The Princess Bride, the book is a buoyant tour through medieval Europe.

Aletheia makes a lovely modern heroine. While she may be a princess fleeing an arranged marriage, but Aletheia is no stereotypical damsel in distress. She is classically educated, wise beyond her years, and far more qualified to rule a country than either of her brothers. She gets herself out of scrapes using her wits as often as not, but would ultimately be quite content with a nice cup of tea and a good book.

The novel reads like zany historical fiction more than a fantasy. The characters are immersed in real historical events, such as the sacking of Constantinople, and Aletheia’s prospective beau was even a real candidate for Holy Roman Emperor. Though this may sound dull to those not interested in straight historical fiction, it is written with modern sardonic tone and passages reflecting on just how much the 13th century sucked are a hoot.

With an intellectual edge and a wicked sense of humor, I recommend this tale to anyone with, love of things historical, fantastical, or a simply looking for a quick good read.   – Karen L. Johnson

The idyllic land of Valice has enjoyed a quiet existence for many centuries beneath the glow of the silver and gold rings that stretch across its sky. It is home to tall vistas and beautiful, green forests, and bordered by a great expanse of rolling mists called ‘the veil.’

At the Inn at the Crossroads, Kamil helps to tend to the many varied patrons and wonders about the wide world that he has never seen. As autumn draws to a close, a boiling storm appears on the horizon and four strangers arrive with dark portents.

Kamil soon finds himself on a journey across the breadth of Valice and far beyond. But when he discovers that the world is being violently consumed behind him, his odyssey becomes a dangerous exodus to the ancient fortress where all of the roads in the land end:

The storied bastion of Hollenguard.

This reader enjoyed it!

I picked up this little novel at the behest of a friend, having little or no expectations. I have been on a real fantasy kick lately so this really seemed to fit the bill. While the first few chapters seemed a little slow, it really picked up, and I could literally not put it down. Coming fresh off the heels of a wildly popular Fantasy Series I was not expecting (as mentioned above) to love Hollenguard as much as I did. I wanted to be there, with the characters. I wanted the story to not stop when it did. There are fantasy books that I read and may mildly enjoy, but not recomend to folks. This book I have recomended to not only my fantasy reading friends, but all of my friends. It really is worth the read, and Kudos to S. Arthur Martin for such a fantastic story. I like the people that live in your head, sir.  – hebetoes

Meet Maxie Duncan. Your average 23-year-old blonde. If you can call being wealthy, gorgeous, and knowing what the future holds at times, average.

After her fiancé blindsides her with a breakup at their favorite restaurant, she leaves Maine for a shot at being Hollywood’s new ‘it girl.’ There’s only one problem. She’s never acted a day in her life.

When a big Hollywood director sends her packing, she realizes if she wants to stay in L.A., she may have to become a normal girl after all. But normal has never been in the cards for her. Strange things keep happening wherever she goes, a red-eyed shadow no one else sees is stalking her, and to top it off, she may be falling in love again, with either the bookish guy next door, or Hollywood’s hottest leading man.

But everything isn’t what it seems. Someone’s keeping secrets from her. Is it her new friends at the apartment building she moved into? Or is it Ryan Everheart, the actor who wants to sweep her off her feet? And why are her feet suddenly floating off the ground?

It’s enough to drive a girl insane. All Maxie wants to do is ride off into the sunset with her one true love and find a killer pair of Manolo Blahniks on the way. But how’s a girl supposed to focus on a love life and shopping when everywhere she turns someone or something is trying to kill her?

This customer sure enjoyed it, I’m sure you will as well!

Maxie is a character that bares a resemblance (at least she does to me) to Cher from “Clueless,” but older. I pictured her as Alicia Silverstone circa 1995 for the entire book. We start off with Maxie having the unthinkable happen to her. She’s been dumped by her fiancee in a rather cruel manner. This has left her examining her life now that the life map she had planned for herself has gone up in flames. The first chapter really shows off Maxie’s self-esteem issues. She thinks that her looks and money are all she has because she’s not THAT girl who can make things happen for herself. She figured she’d marry a rich guy and just live as a rich man’s wife. So what’s she supposed to do with herself now?

She has decided to move, give herself a fresh start and learn how to stand on her own two feet in Los Angeles where she she figures because she’s hot she could be an actress. This doesn’t work, neither does fast fooding or bartending. Meanwhile she’s made new friends and develops relationships that help her grow as a person. She’s got two sweet guys to chose from, a Hot Movie star that people are warning her against and her super sweet book store-owning neighbor. All the while she’s noticed some weird things happening and a strange creature in her building. All weird things come to a head and Maxie discovers that she’s actually a very powerful witch.

I liked this book, it was cute. It’s not the greatest piece of literature of all time but it’s fun and I enjoyed it. It really is all about just finding a place to belong and priorities. Maxie went through a lot of growing as a character and I was really happy for her at the end of the book. If you compare the first and last chapters of the book, it’s really obvious that baby came a long way.

I know this is classified as romance and it does have romantic elements but this for me stands out more as a coming of age type of story.    – Jessica
