Spotlight Book! “The Sound of Many Waters” by Sean Bloomfield

This story was fantastic from beginning to end. I had a hard time putting it down. The writing created vivid imagery. I thought the character development was excellent, and found myself becoming attached to certain personalities.
I highly recommend this book!  – big fish

A shipwreck leaves a brutal 17th-century conquistador lost in a savage land.

In the present day, a Florida fishing guide plucks a mysterious package out of the ocean.

The lives of these two men are forever connected when they each discover the same ancient secret hidden in the wilds of “La Florida.”

THE SOUND OF MANY WATERS follows two interwoven journeys separated by nearly four hundred years.

Dominic, a ruthless New World conquistador, is the proud captain of a gold-filled galleon sailing home to Spain. But when a hurricane sinks his ship off the coast of La Florida and the native Timucuans take him captive, Dominic must fight to survive in an unfamiliar world.

In the present day, Zane Fisher—a recovering addict—cannot seem to escape the shadow of his checkered past or the memory of his lost love. When a peculiar client charters his boat for what seems like a routine fishing trip off the coast of Palm Beach, Zane is thrust into a life-and-death struggle that forces him to flee into Florida’s dark underbelly.

Despite the four centuries that divide them, Dominic and Zane each discover the same extraordinary secret—one kept hidden in the wilds of Florida for eons—and their stories converge in an incredible way.

This person gave it five stars!

I really enjoyed this novel. I recommend you give it past the first chapter to hook you (it took me until about the second half of the second chapter…but it was a gripping roller-coaster ride from then on!)

I love historical fiction, especially when it takes me on a journey to a place I’ve never been before, and this book did just that. Dominic’s time amongst the Timucan natives was well described, and felt authentic and well researched to me. Also, Zane’s modern-day story in Florida was so incredibly well described I feel like I’ve just returned from a visit there (and I’ve never been there before either!) I love books for their ability to take me on a journey, so an author who can do that well has my respect.

As far as the plot…I want to be careful not to give away any spoilers here. I will say that this is a story of redemption, more than anything else. It is heavy on action and thrills…I was up late into the night two nights ago when I couldn’t put it down because I had to know how part of it worked out. But it also has elements of magical realism and even some religious faith (though it is NOT a religious work).

Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot, especially as a nice change from the usual romance novels and chick lit I have been reading lately. I downloaded it during a free download day, but I think it is definately worth the price I see it is for sale for today. – ChickLit

Spotlight Book! “Web of Deceit” by Charles R. Stubbs

If you like a good, thought-provoking mystery set in a beautiful part of the world, then you will enjoy this book.   –  J. Conrad

Six weeks ago George Travis was living quietly in North Wales in the UK – keeping himself to himself, bothering no-one, walking and birdwatching in his spare time. Now he’s on the run: wanted by the police, vilified in the national press, and hiding from a man he thought was his friend. In desperation, Travis seeks help from a woman he has met just once, hatching a plan that will lure his tormentor out into the open. But to make the plan work he has to stay one step ahead of the police, the press and the man he eventually comes to know as Yr Hen Was, ‘The Devil’.

Played out against the stunning backdrop of the North Wales mountains, this is the story of how one man strikes back against people who misuse the media to distort facts, exploit innuendo and ruin lives. Set in 1999, it foreshadows many of the real-world smear campaigns, scams and scandals of the following decade, raising questions about how the internet and universal access to the Web will change the way we process information, the way we view the world, and ultimately, what we believe to be the ‘truth’.

This reader would recommend it!

Set against the backdrop of North Wales in the UK, Web of Deceit is the story of a young man named George Travis who lived a simple life in the mountainous region. Now his life has been flipped upside down as he works to not only evade the police but also out maneuver both the media and a man he believed was a friend…

This story is truly powerful. Set in the year 1999: A time when cell phone and internet technology were simply infants, this story shows the early stages of what life would be like in an instant news world… With propaganda, distorted facts, and smear tactics; it is the story of one man fighting back…

I fell in love with Travis immediately. A man that keeps to himself, taking long walks, birdwatching, he is the most unlikely hero. The author has done an amazing job of proving we can all be larger than life…

Charles R Stubbs is someone I put up on my shelf with James Rollins, Jeremy Robinson, and Dan Brown. His prose and dialogue were tight, and his characters were strongly developed. I can’t wait to read more!!!    –   Jeremy L. Johnson

Spotlight Book! “No Way Out But Through” by Graham Aitchison

I spent nearly 2 years writing this book. It was often very difficult to write as it is a very honest and personal account of my deepest struggles throughout my life. However, I am very pleased with how it turned out. During a free promotional giveaway using the KDP program, No Way Out But Through made it to #9 on Amazon.com under Christianity and has so far received very positive reviews.

No Way Out But Through is the written account of Graham Aitchison’s journey from mental illness to a true sense of clarity and peace. This book takes the reader through the darkest parts of Graham’s soul through the various tools and thinking methods he has used to help himself to heal and into a realm of insight that can only come through surviving the darkest parts of life itself.
Still not convinced? This reader would recommend it.
This book follows the self-biographical journey of one young man from a place of deep darkness to brilliant light. It takes the reader through the full gamut of the darkest human emotions to eventually find a path to healing and salvation of the soul, spirit, emotions and psyche. The power of Graham’s emotions to overcome and defeat him time and time again, and the vicious cycle of self-destruction beggars belief as to how he managed to survive long enough to find salvation. His remarkable story provides evidence of the healing power of God to overcome some of the worst issues of humanity.

Graham’s salvation came in part through the love and spiritual guidance of his mother and other Christian mentors. Through their presence he found God and discovered there is a path that leads from darkness to light. But it was predominantly the power and working of God in his life that led to his ultimate release from darkness.

Parts of this book are not an easy read as Graham faces his internal demons. But in each case as he works with God he finds a pathway through the darkness and discovers that the only way to go when you are in the depths is to go up. Over time and through various events in his life, the Lord takes Graham to places he would rather not go, but are necessary if he is to heal fully. Progressively the Lord peels back the onion exposing successive and deeper layers of darkness in his life, and as the darkness becomes exposed by the light it washes away what was once fearful and horrid in this man to cleanse him of his past and lead him to a better future.

I would recommend this book to anyone suffering the darkness of human emotion, depressions, fear, anger and so on, as it provides a hope for salvation. It doesn’t matter how far down in darkness you may fall. As Graham discovered, God can and will lift you out of it. His story here shows as much and it should encourage anyone going through similar circumstances to know that in God there is hope.  – John L

Alexandra ‘Alibi’ Vernon is the eleven-year-old daughter of a psychic medium whose behavior is repeatedly influenced by kids from the Other Side. From building sub sandwiches in her sleep to sneaking into a stranger’s attic, Alibi has her innocence challenged on a regular basis. Since her mother is fairly new at medium work, she only schedules two readings a week. However, this particular week, she accidentally schedules five readings, five days in a row. During this time, each child from the Other Side has a mysterious clue for Alibi to unravel, and she begins to notice each clue is connected in some way with the other readings. With a bit of ghostly charade playing, lots of trouble dodging, and the help of her deceased relatives: Grandpa Edgar and Cousin Kyle, along with her living but scaredy-cat best friend, Daisy, Alibi is able to solve the mystery and help all five grieving parents simultaneously.

This reader loved it!

Alexandra “Alibi” Vernon lives in what she calls the “Dead and Breakfast Inn”. Originally purchased to flip, Alibi’s parents continue to work on renovations several years later. This old house seems to be a beacon for Alibi’s ghosts, who come in response to her mother’s psychic readings. Alibi works hard to figure out the clues given to her by these ghosts, as well as the ghosts of her grandfather and cousin, who died in a car accident years earlier. This week Alibi’s mom has 5 psychic readings, and Alibi’s best friend, Daisy comes to spend the weekend. Alibi and Daisy go on a quest to solve the mystery of the 5 ghosts. Who are these ghosts and what do they have to do with each other? What’s going to happen with Daisy, who is deathly afraid of anything remotely spooky? Can their friendship survive a weekend together at Alibi’s house? A well-written book with a loveable main character, Alibi’s Ghosts includes a theme about the importance of family and friends.  – jedsgirl

There’s so much to take away from this book, it covers so many issues that people deal with in everyday life Forgiveness, Hatred, Love, Addiction, Abandonment, Moral Values, Death and the list goes on. It’s very easy to relate to I found myself and my friends in this book several times.

Geneva Cole was well known for growing orchids, but her most prized orchids weren’t really flowers at all, at least not in the literal sense. Her most prized orchids were her four grand-daughters: Karen, Cicely, and twin sisters Brook and Dawn. And her main goal was to prepare them for life’s challenges.

Brook eventually opens several barbershops/hair salons with her husband Walter; however, she battles with him over their long distance marriage and alleged infidelity. Dawn has a daughter by a drug trafficker named Cory Mack. But she must constantly battle another woman for his affection. The extremely promiscuous Cicely has everything a girl could want: wealth, intelligence, and beauty. Yet for all of her treasures, she ends up lacking in other areas that are most important to her. Finally, Karen battles severe anxiety attacks, loses boyfriend after boyfriend because of her pledge of virginity and has to deal with the intense hatred that Cicely has for her.

“An Ode for Orchids” is a story about four young women and the challenges that they face, such as making bad choices in men, dealing with infidelity, struggling with promiscuity, and dealing with rejection. But perhaps the most daunting challenge is dealing with the animosity that one woman can have for another woman. Time will reveal whether or not each of them will be strong enough to face the challenges that life will offer them.

Her husband’s tragic death has now led her to the path she should have taken; becoming a prophesised female warrior of the Nephilim, descendants of angels.

POTFW is a great start to a new paranormal/fantasy romance series. There is believable growth as Anna morphs from a grieving widow into a kick-ass warrior babe who has a whole bunch of men vying for her affections. Her intimate encounters are certainly heated, but one could question the speed in which she starts jumping into bed with or fantasising about other men considering how recently her husband passed away. There are some clever twists and turns to the plot as Anna wonders who she can trust and a great ending that certainly leaves you wondering what Anna plans to do in further books.
