This story was fantastic from beginning to end. I had a hard time putting it down. The writing created vivid imagery. I thought the character development was excellent, and found myself becoming attached to certain personalities.
I highly recommend this book! – big fish
A shipwreck leaves a brutal 17th-century conquistador lost in a savage land.
In the present day, a Florida fishing guide plucks a mysterious package out of the ocean.
The lives of these two men are forever connected when they each discover the same ancient secret hidden in the wilds of “La Florida.”
THE SOUND OF MANY WATERS follows two interwoven journeys separated by nearly four hundred years.
Dominic, a ruthless New World conquistador, is the proud captain of a gold-filled galleon sailing home to Spain. But when a hurricane sinks his ship off the coast of La Florida and the native Timucuans take him captive, Dominic must fight to survive in an unfamiliar world.
In the present day, Zane Fisher—a recovering addict—cannot seem to escape the shadow of his checkered past or the memory of his lost love. When a peculiar client charters his boat for what seems like a routine fishing trip off the coast of Palm Beach, Zane is thrust into a life-and-death struggle that forces him to flee into Florida’s dark underbelly.
Despite the four centuries that divide them, Dominic and Zane each discover the same extraordinary secret—one kept hidden in the wilds of Florida for eons—and their stories converge in an incredible way.
This person gave it five stars!
I really enjoyed this novel. I recommend you give it past the first chapter to hook you (it took me until about the second half of the second chapter…but it was a gripping roller-coaster ride from then on!)
I love historical fiction, especially when it takes me on a journey to a place I’ve never been before, and this book did just that. Dominic’s time amongst the Timucan natives was well described, and felt authentic and well researched to me. Also, Zane’s modern-day story in Florida was so incredibly well described I feel like I’ve just returned from a visit there (and I’ve never been there before either!) I love books for their ability to take me on a journey, so an author who can do that well has my respect.
As far as the plot…I want to be careful not to give away any spoilers here. I will say that this is a story of redemption, more than anything else. It is heavy on action and thrills…I was up late into the night two nights ago when I couldn’t put it down because I had to know how part of it worked out. But it also has elements of magical realism and even some religious faith (though it is NOT a religious work).
Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot, especially as a nice change from the usual romance novels and chick lit I have been reading lately. I downloaded it during a free download day, but I think it is definately worth the price I see it is for sale for today. – ChickLit
