The Trifecta: Initiation is a very well written and imaginative Y/A *coming of age* novel. It resembles our favorite super hero stories, but brings enough uniqueness to the table that it doesn’t feel like it is something you have already read at all.

The main character is a boy named Michael. We follow him as he travels from Africa to join an invitation only school, the Hero Institute, that specializes in super hero training. Michael also lives in a Dystopian world that was torn apart by fighting and the same organization that runs Hero Institute is trying to regain control of the world and bring peace. The Trifecta is the name of the group.

Of course, there are plot twists you never see coming and absolutely nothing is cut and dry for Michael. I particularly loved the pace that the world is built. It isn’t rushed, but it also doesn’t take until the very end for something to happen. Very few authors can pull off the perfect pace like in this book. Add to that the descriptive writing and highly imaginative story line and you have an amazing Young Adult dystopian novel. Although, I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this book, even if they are a little older than a young adult. I know I sure did.

Don’t miss out, definitely add this to your TBR list!

I am not going to lie, I thought long and hard before accepting this review request. A new author with their first book in a series. There have been quite a few times I have been left hanging and the author never wrote another book. I decided to take my chances with A Thread in the Tangle because it looked so promising! I’m really glad I did as it was an amazing book, now I will just hope and pray that the series will continue!

This book mainly follows a Nymph called Isiilde. There are a few other main characters (Oenghus and Marsais) but she is the one who drives the story-line. Isiilde lives in a world where Nymphs are little more than property and are bought and sold to be used for their powers. At four Oenghus takes over as her guardian and at fourteen Marsais takes over her instruction. When she is due to be sold by her father she wants to change her destiny and be free but isn’t sure how to go about it. Soon events will start her life spiraling out of control and all we can do is “hold on” and see what happens.

This is a great start to a series! The beginning took a little while to get going, and there were places that had serious “information dumps” but overall this is a solid four star read. Just as a fair warning, the ending did have a crazy cliff-hanger. So if you aren’t into those you might want to wait until the second book comes out, but definitely put this one on your TBR list because it is a keeper.

Highly recommend!

I couldn’t wait to read Turnstiles. I knew it had the potential to be a really intriguing, thought provoking read. Thankfully it lived up to its potential and I enjoyed reading every page.

The book is written as three different stories that all have the same theme. Learning to take control of your destiny and accepting your lot in life, but not accepting that it has to stay that way forever. Reading Martin, Willis,  and Evelyn’s stories made me think about my own life and I love it when a book does that.

The writing was smooth, the plot unique and compelling and the characters were well fleshed out. Although all the stories were good, Evelyn’s (also known as Yvonne) story touched me the most and I felt the most connected to her.

Overall this book is a solid five stars and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a different book from the norm.

DESCRIPTION:

Martin Sourdough is a homeless person who has chosen to turn his back on the corporate, material world; Willis Hancocks Jr. is a barrister, an alcoholic philanderer, and a misogynist; and Evelyn (aka Yvonne) is a prostitute. Turnstiles speaks to these social problems through the smaller scope of each character’s individual trials. There is a struggle that exists between the need to serve one’s own needs and the expectation to participate in the larger social scheme. Martin and Willis are both trying to fit into the world, but on their own terms. They are naïve, searching for an Eden-like state of being. Through a broader experience of personal fortune, misfortune, travel, and social interactions, they each learn to accept their path and take control of their own destinies.

To say I couldn’t wait to read the fourth installment of this amazing YA series would be the understatement of the year! The Land of Windemere is truly enchanting and each adventure brings it closer and closer to one of my all time favorite series. Right up there with the likes of Harry Potter.

As previously mentioned, this is the fourth installment and I have reviewed the previous three books. You can find those reviews here:

Beginning of a Hero

Prodigy of Rainbow Tower

Allure of the Gypsies

Family of the Tri-Rune starts where Allure of the Gypsies left off. I have to admit, I wasn’t certain what direction the series was going to take after what happened at Hero’s Gate in Allure of the Gypsies. I can’t say to much without giving away the whole series but I absolutely love how the author brings closure to things from previous books as well as create new and interesting story lines as well as introduce new characters.

This book has a lot of Nyx in it, and since she is one of my favorite characters I absolutely loved that. Of course Luke was also front and center and he finds himself in the middle of a complicated love triangle in this book.

The fight scenes are what I think sets this series apart from many others. They are written in a way that makes you feel like you are really watching in on television the writing is so vivid. I have never read another book that can pull it off so well.

Overall I very highly recommend this series, but I can only recommend it if you start from the beginning. There is too much character building and character growth to simply jump into the middle of the series. At least, that is my opinion. It is a free country after all 😛

DESCRIPTION:

The magical adventure continues after Luke Callindor and his friends recover from their battles in Haven.

Nyx still has nightmares about casting the genocide spell in Hero’s Gate. Every night her heart is gripped by the sensation of hundreds of goblins dying by her magic. By the request of Lord Highrider and Duke Solomon, she is returning to fix the damage she caused. With Luke Callindor and Sari by her side, Nyx is ready to face the vengeful goblins and opportunistic thieves that plague Hero’s Gate. Yet, there is a darker threat that was born from her violated magic: The Krypters.

It is another action-packed, character driven story that will reveal one of our heroes has been lied to for their entire life.

This is a typical “coming of age” tale. Only, it really isn’t all that typical. Ray is an introverted type who would rather read an amazing book than get involved in any of the drama that surrounds him.
Unfortunately his best friend Kevin is all about the drama. And thanks to Anna, his love interest, he finds himself on the wrong side of the local bully Corey, who also has a crush on Anna.

Ray Ryan is a highly character driven story. The main character is actually the narrator of story. He tells his own story with the conviction that only someone who has personally lived it can.
Ray wants nothing more than to become a writer, and the only thing that can hold him back is his normal life experiences. On top of falling in love with the same girl that the school bully has a crush on, his best friend Kevin is also prone to trouble.

Overall the entire story line is both engaging and entertaining. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick  and entertaining getaway.

Being Catholic, I was both intrigued and slightly apprehensive to read The Truth which was Kept from Us. Would it be thought provoking or just full of things that would make me want to throw my kindle across the room?

In the end it was definitely thought provoking and interesting. I really liked how the author encourages the reader to come to their own conclusions and doesn’t strong arm them into one way of thinking.
I also really enjoyed the parts about extraterrestrials visiting. I am a huge believer in aliens and that was definitely one of my favorite parts.

Overall I really enjoyed it. This would be an amazing choice for a book club to read. The discussions that a group could get into over the contents of this book would be endless.

Highly recommend to any adventurous reader.

DESCRIPTION:
I maintain that 90% of Jesus’ teachings have been kept secret. Most of his teachings are to be found in this book, which goes on to tell of wisdom, truth, beauty and ancient mysteries in the context of world religions and folk tales about extraterrestrial visits to earth.

The one and only truth, which is the doctrine of love, will be conveyed in a down-to-earth, non-religious style. You will be able to read many hidden writings containing Jesus’ teachings, including the ancient gospel. The ancient gospel is the principal gospel, the complete and original gospel, containing far more than the four gospels of the Bible.

The whole of the so-called Christian world is founded on a bigoted and distorted version of all that was originally wondrous and genuine. It is shocking that this could have happened. What do people today know of the laws of love? The teachings of reincarnation? Genuine and profound wisdom? This is no small and trivial matter that the churches are withholding – but the most essential and major part of the original teachings! The churches have suppressed the ancient gospel, as well as a wealth of other writings. The discovery of this original ancient gospel, 107 years ago, should have caused a sensation, the like of which the world has never seen before. But the churches have done nothing whatsoever! In fact, they have concealed the very spirit itself. It is these things, first and foremost; the spirit and the light of love, with which my book deals.

Many people will be both delighted and dismayed when they discover the scope and nature of the treasures of divine wisdom which have been kept from them.

What was once the unimpeachable doctrine of love, has been transformed, the world over, into religious ceremony and superstition.

When I had the opportunity to review this book, I jumped on it. I just knew my three and five year old would absolutely adore it. They are both perpetually bored and they (especially the five year old) have been asking for a dog a LOT lately.

Bing is a typical boy. Bored with no one or thing to play with, he takes his fate into his own hands and makes a robot to play with. He always wanted a dog named Nero, so he names the robot Nero instead.

Ever since I got this book, my girls have been picking it to read every night. It’s basically the book equivalent of Disney’s Frozen!
The illustrations are very well done and I love how the background of the pages change color.

My seven year old also loves to read this book to her little sisters. She only needs a little bit of help with some words.

Overall I highly recommend, and my girls give it two thumbs and two toes up.

I’ll admit, I kind of figured this would be another *cookie cutter* love story, with a few differences thrown in for flavor. Not that I don’t love those as well. We all know that every love story has already been written! Or have they?

Unfortunately for my long list of chores (but fortunately for me) Seal of the King was much more engrossing than I anticipated.
Aurora and David were such interesting and unique characters, and the story line had so many twists and turns that you never saw coming.

The book itself is quite long, which gives you enough time to truly come to know the world and the characters. The bad news is that it’s written so well it still feels super short anyway! Oh well, I guess as far as things to complain about go that is a good thing 😛

There are Christian elements woven into the story. I don’t personally see it offending anyone but the most sensitive to such things.

I have a hard time recommending this to any particular genre, because it brings so much to the table. I would say that if you love reading, you should give this one a try!

indie-author-book-review

Most of the time I pass on reviewing short story collections. I am more of a series kind of girl and short stories are basically the anti-series! We definitely don’t connect.

However, Deadly Vows caught my attention because it was so unique. The collection is more of a hybrid cross between a poem and a story.
My favorite was probably “Ain’t No Sunshine”. That is one of the great qualities about story collections. Most everyone can find one that speaks to them. Although I can also almost guarantee your favorite will change depending on what mood you are in.

The whole book is pretty dark, and the emotions almost jump out and bite you. Since it is so dark and emotional it does have some foul language. If that kind of stuff seriously offends your sensibilities then I would pass on it.

If you like reading things that are off the beaten path then this book is for you.
I feel like I have to buy a paperback version of it just because it holds so much emotion and an ebook just can’t handle it.
Plus that way I can pull it off the shelves and look at it anytime I want!

The only thing that keeps it at a four stars is the fact that there are some pretty obvious typos.

DESCRIPTION:
“In life or death, sometimes the actions toward another person are not forgotten.  The invasions of another persons mind set can cause the viewer to take a step back, sit up and imagine that the enemy does not see what is coming.  They are in the inner part of the enemy head to feel the pain and not mix it up.
In a new line up of horror stories, Mr. Marsh takes us to the existence that there is more to life and death that we already know.  Marsh focuses hard on showing us the different views of how pain and a doormat person can live inside us all and not realizing it until it is to late.
Marsh mind set is so strong on the death of him, that he sheds a dark light just to allow us to read a little concerning the demons inside us all.  The style he shows is very conversational and straight forward in his own dark ways.
A book inside a book, “The Deadly Vows” is the mindset of Mr. Marsh.  “The Deadly Vows” is powerful and offers us to see the evil we care not to see.  The question after reading this book is, “Is it safe to go out again, knowing that there are people that are out there with his mindset.  The “The Deadly Vows” is a dark and painful raw emotions book to read and it bares a spectrum of themes to comprehend.”

Nobility is the third book I have read in the *To Be Sinclair* series. It is by far my favorite.
I’m not really sure if it is because it truly is the best one of the books so far, or if it is just because I am becoming more and more attached to the Universe that is the common theme with all of these books.

I am certain that Prince Matthieu is one of my favorite Sinclair characters. This whole book was mostly about him dealing with all of his many many duties while trying to balance a somewhat normal life AND find some happiness. Whew. No minor task.

It is so hard to write a review for a book such as this. There really is no way to portray how interesting and enthralling it truly is!

The way the author writes the story just drawn you in and doesn’t let you go. I can only imagine the massive imagination she must have to be able to create the universe and the characters she has.
Amazing!

About the only complaint I have with this book is that there are some spots where it did drag on. Nothing that detracted from the story overall – just a few spots that seemed to just be *fillers*.

Overall I highly recommend the To Be Sinclair series. There is something about these books that you just don’t come across very often, and I will be reading them  all more than once!
