“I absolutely loved this book. It was fast-paced and action-packed. The characters were complex and diverse and everything tied together beautifully. Put a new perspective on the Iraqi war for me. I couldn’t put this book down. In fact, I’ve been suffering at work all week from a lack of sleep from staying up reading this book!”  ~  Michele Butcher

In this fast paced thriller, Iraq’s top terrorist makes two promises – a kidnapped American contractor will be executed on a given date, his body dumped in Baghdad’s Green Zone and a major attack will occur in seven days.

Working desperately to find the American and thwart the impending attack is an elite 4-man CIA team which includes an attractive female doctor. But they can only watch helplessly as the terrorist and his masked henchmen behead the American during a live video feed carried on the Internet.

What they don’t know is that one of the masked men is not a terrorist, but completely innocent. He is an Iraqi pharmacist who has infiltrated the group. His only objective – to find his missing fiancée, who the terrorist has also kidnapped.

After the beheading, he is free to go. But little does he know that his fiancée will bring the deceased American’s head to the Green Zone, and inside the dead man’s mouth is evidence linking him to the terrorist.

This is the first novel in M.H. Sargent’s popular MP-5 CIA series. The other novels include The Shot To Die For, Operation Spider Web, The Yemen Connection and Alliance of Evil. Sargent has also written a murder mystery set during WWII, Toward Night’s End.

***Includes bonus excerpt from Sargent’s next book, The Shot To Die For***

I’m reading my third M.H. Sargent book is as many days and not getting much sleep. Seven Days from Sunday and the other two works from this independent author are all well crafted, have memorable characters and many twist in plot to keep your attention. Like a Grisham novel, Sargent sets the hook early and weaves a story that keeps you turning pages until late in the night. Centered around the Iraq war, the context is fresh with lots of action and intrigue. The author does an excellent job of developing his characters, each with distinct personalities that are consistent in each book. While most modern fiction has a central theme of sex, corruption and ample profanity, it’s refreshing to find a good clean read.
Grisham was an unknown when “A Time to Kill” was published. I suggest M.H. Sargent falls in the same category. Only marketing and name recognition stand in the way of this author’s works on the NYT best seller list.Comorant

GOLDEN REVIEW Book! “The Blood Upon the Rose” by Tim Vicary

**Every GOLDEN REVIEW book has at LEAST 10 reviews; averaging a four star rating.**

‘Tim Vicary writes well. He has mastered the history of the period, empathises with problem, race, and place, and strings the whole thing together in a quite creditable airport-compatible entertainment in the style of Archer, Seymour, and Uris. Whatever one thinks of such writing, those are no mean practitioners to be reminded of by a first novel. Vicary will be heard from again.’
Tim Pat Coogan, The Irish Times, 15th August 1992.

He also decides that the dashing major would make the perfect husband for his headstrong daughter …

In a violent climax of passion, guilt and betrayal, while her country hurtles towards civil war, Catherine faces and a agonising choice as she makes her final, fateful decision.

Catherine is a wicked little wench. Andrew introverted, mysterious, scarred. Sean tragic character. All very well crafted. I really could not put the book down. It carried me right along all night to the surprising conclusion. 5 stars.   –  Budedy

GOLDEN REVIEW Book! “Being Human” by Patricia Lynne

Addicting, heart-warming, and thought-provoking. ‘Being Human’ is an original tale of love, friends and family that will have you questioning what it really means to be human, and wondering if the real monsters aren’t already in our midst.Daniel A. Kaine, author of Dawn of Darkness

Tommy just wants to survive and he knows what he needs to do. But with the number of humans that mean more to him than a meal growing, he’ll learn there’s more to life than simple survival. He’ll discover being human doesn’t mean being a human.

This reader would recommend it!

Being Human isn’t your typical vampire story. It’s a story about family, bonds and learning what it takes to be human. I love that it spans several years, but not an insane amount of time. This vampire isn’t hundreds of years old. The story is touching, entertaining and an overall good read. It gives you that paranormal fix you need but without shoving the same ole story in front of your face.

A great debut novel. Looking forward to what she puts out next!   – M. B. Mulhall

GOLDEN REVIEW Book! “All My Love, Detrick” by Roberta Kagan

“ I really enjoyed this book – I read it in one sitting and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. ” – Karman Moore

Set in Nazi occupied Europe, “All My Love, Detrick,” follows the lives of two families, one Jewish the Abdenstern’s and one German the Haswell’s. They are bound together forever by a forbidden love. This is a very human story. It shows the effects of the Third Reich on two lovers who will risk everything to be together…even death.

Excerpt: Kristalnacht

The night of broken glass….

A shattering crashed through the stillness of the darkness as if the world was coming to an end. The sky lit up with orange and red fire following a booming thunderous roar as the synagogue that the Abdenstern’s had attended for years burst into flames. Then came the crashing of clubs as the windows of the local shops fell in shards upon the streets. Cries of terror from the women and children filled the Jewish sector of town. Men who’d been ripped from their homes lay upon the ground beaten and bleeding. Wild mobs ran in every direction looting and destroying, forgetting all respect for human life. For the Jews who lived and worked in peace for centuries in this tiny community, Armageddon had begun.

If you like Historical Saga’s, you’ll love “All My Love, Detrick.

This reader loved it!

Love. Betrayal. Families destroyed; hearts torn asunder and loyalties tested. This book follows the events of two families caught on opposing sides during the most tumultuous time in modern history.

I knew from the moment I started reading that this book would be difficult to read, simply because it deals with past events that are such a huge blot on our history. World War II Germany is a delicate topic to cover for any writer, but Ms. Kagan did a beautiful job.

All the elements of an epic tale are sprinkled throughout. Tragedy and triumph. Unending love and unfathomable hate. The ugliness of war and the tenderness of individuals.

For me, the triumph of love over evil, even in the face of unbelievable circumstances, made this a book I enjoyed reading. Ashley Fontainne

Names! They fascinate writer Molly D. Campbell. Always curious about how a name might influence personality, Molly began a Twitter stream of names with one-sentence descriptions that soon took over her imagination. Loretta Squirrels, a moonshiner who also beats up her husband, gained notoriety on Twitter. Loretta was swiftly followed by eccentric dentists, dogs with human characteristics, cab drivers, Country and Western singers, and a movie star or two. Each story in Characters In Search of a Novel is a quick & often rib-tickling read—this book is just what you’d want on vacation, in a waiting room, or on a long plane ride.

This reader gave it five stars!

“Characters In Search of a Novel” is a charming melange of fascinating character portraits from small town America. “In Search Of…” celebrates an originality of spirit and authentic eccentricity that is refreshing, especially in our cynical, pop culture saturated age. Author Campbell displays keen insight and shrewd humor in depicting these quirky characters that, we hope, will secure their own prospective novels. The character illustrations by Randy Palmer are inspired.”   – Barb Best

I got this book while it was on a free promotion through Amazon. Usually when I DL a free book (I download tons) I will read a couple chapters to see if I will eventually read it, or should just go ahead and delete it. By the time I finished chapter two I think it was, I was hooked. I ended up going ahead and reading the whole book in a day, and it isn’t a short book. Longer than most free I think.

I read some of the reviews here AFTER I read the book and just needed to say that I really like the fast pace. I love the style of book, semi-short chapters that keep you needing to read the next. I loved it being fast and not having hours of filler stuff that I end up getting bored with in most other books.

Another thing I liked was how the romance is on the back burner. Love is a big part of the story, but not in the same way as like Twilight or 50 Shades (shudder). It’s not shoved in your face and crammed down your throat. The story is about vampires, vampire hunting, and what those two things existing in our otherwise normal world would affect.

Overall an awesome book that I think a wide audience can enjoy. I’m a guy and still liked it a lot.   – Brad

GOLDEN REVIEW Book! “Letting Them: An Absurd Short Novel” by Ken Brimhall

**Every GOLDEN REVIEW book has at LEAST 10 reviews; averaging a four star rating.**

“ This book makes one think about where the problem lies. ” – Cindy Vine

An epidemic of indolence threatens to engulf a Texas high school. Two geezer teachers, Calvin Sizemore and Emir Rubio, battle to survive. They face drug abuse, gang violence, teenage pregnancy, inept administrators—but most of all, the freeloading mojo and moja students who overrun the school. When the ’jos and ’jas refuse to prep for college, Rubio and Sizemore tell them to prep for jail by working out and learning to read, but their ridicule fails, due to the school’s disgraceful state and their absurd attempts to remain coherent. The outcome is far from what they expect.

This reader recommends it:

I downloaded and read “Letting Them” after a search in Kindle books. If this is what it is like to teach in an American high school today, then it is no wonder we are in the shape we are in. The two teachers in this book, Calvin Sizemore and Emir Rubio, got no help whatsoever from parents or administrators when they tried to motivate their worst students. I thank the author for letting me know just how bad the situation is.  – Rex

Gracie believed she was a regular girl living a regular life.
She didn’t know she possessed the power to infiltrate people’s minds.
She didn’t know the power would endanger her life.
She didn’t know she would fall in love with her abductor.
And she had absolutely no idea what a Soul Protector was
…until now.

This reader would recommend it!

This is chick lit meets paranormal – my favourite kind of read at the moment – but it also runs a bit deeper than that and I particularly enjoyed the wicked twist towards the end.

Gracie’s job isn’t great, her boyfriend has gone off with her younger sister and, quite rightly, Gracie isn’t feeling up to doing much of anything at the moment, let alone celebrate her best friend Lydia’s engagement. But she’s a sweet girl and puts on a brave face. Then things start taking a decidedly paranormal twist as she ‘becomes’ Lydia and discovers a whole other world exists out there.

Gracie meets Dan, a ‘monitor’ and there’s instant chemistry between them, but there’s also a lot of baggage keeping them apart. None of the relationships in Gracie’s life have been straightforward and I found myself really starting to care about her and wanting to fight on her behalf!

Amanda Cowley has written a wonderfully absorbing story, with great characters, a gorgeous leading man and that magical page-turning quality. I’m a fan!  – Shalini Boland

GOLDEN REVIEW Book! “The Innsmouth Syndrome” by Philip Hemplow

Veteran epidemiologist Carla Edwards has been dispatched by the C.D.C. to investigate a cluster of inexplicable mutations among the young people of Innsmouth, a sickly and destitute town on the Massachusetts coast. Initially skeptical, she rapidly discovers that the true mystery is older and more horrifying than anything for which her training has prepared her. As the danger mounts, a double helix of history and urban folklore draws her inexorably to the door of a sinister, evangelical cult – and beyond the limits of her science and belief.

This reader gave it five stars!

An absolutely stellar debut by new writer Philip Hemplow, “The Innsmouth Syndrome” is just short of a novella length retelling of the classic H.P. Lovecraft tale, THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH. Hemplow’s story is written in a modern style and follows the investigation of a CDC physician punitively assigned to uncover the strange circumstances involving a car accident and several teenagers. The heroin is portrayed as every bit Lovecraft’s classic outsider, and Hemplow’s denoumont is decidedly and respectfully Lovecraftian. Hemplow’s only flaw lies in the decidedly British vocabulary and idiomatic speech of his characters, who are supposedly American. Unfortunately, his toughs sound like hoodies from the East End, and the protagonist’s English is just a little too Central London. Otherwise an absolute winner. Absolutely recommended, and a must-read for Lovecraft fans of any sort.   – Odysseus

Or acting in a “gay” manner. This was a great book, full of harsh reality. was a very emotional read for me, having so many gay friends and family members, and knowing this kind of hatred really does exiist. I loved the ending, and I commend Ms. Stoddard for writing this book!!!   – Tonya
