This book is absolutely great. Mystery, Magic, a handsome elf 😉

The heroine awakens in this book with no memory of who she is, and she has no idea WHERE she is!
An elf named Glenn finds her and rescues her.
Together they try to figure out who she is and why there are dark forces that hunt her.

I forgot how much I enjoy reading a book from *another world*. As much as I love Urban Fantasy, Dystopian, Historical, etc. etc, it just can’t quite compete with a whole new world!

I can’t forget to mention that the author did a wonderful job of developing the characters and creating vivid pictures in your mind.

To sum it up, I enjoyed this book immensely! So much so that I looked and found out the second book is out 😉
I will definitely be putting that on my “To Be Read” list immediately.

BLURB:

When the battered woman wakes on the frosted grass, the only thing she remembers is the blood-thirsty cult offering her as a sacrifice in a ceremony gone serendipitously wrong.

She has no name, no past, and seemingly no future as her swollen eyes slide shut for what she hopes is the last time. Glenn Elambil, a handsome elf, rescues her, bringing her from the brink of death into a life she never could have imagined. She finds herself on a different planet, a world where magic is as natural as drawing breath.

It’s not all wizards and wonder, though. The War Lord, the god of the cult that tried to kill her, is coming. Those on the side of evil hunt her with dark magic and darker intent. The good powers of the world need her to do some favors for them, and to top it off she’s got a growing, complicated infatuation with Glenn. The key to her future lies in her past, which might be easier to find if her mind hadn’t been shattered and reprogrammed by the cult. She must face it all and dive head first into her own psyche to find what is lost if she has any chance of survival.

Shattered, book one in The Legends of Rune trilogy, is a contemporary fantasy unlike any other.

I have personally always loved poems. I have NEVER been able to write them myself, no matter how hard I tried.
Maybe that is why I enjoy the ones others write so much!

When I first started reading this book I figured it would be filled with love poems.
Don’t be fooled by the title! It is filled with so many different kind of poems and experiences.

In this world of instant gratification it is almost to easy to just throw something together and call it a hard days work.
However, you can easily see this book has been written over the span of years and you can really tell the author has experienced a LOT.

This is one of the few books I feel I want to have in paperback just so I can have the actual feeling of a book to read and flip through.

Thanks Kevin for sharing your great poems with the world!

Since making an anniversary weekend in 2008, I began to write poetry again on a regular basis to Regina. Some of this poetry is here along with some pictures taken along the way. Enjoy!

I really jumped at the chance to review this book, because I have four daughters. My oldest is 11 then 6, 4, & 2.

I had my 11 year old read it aloud to her little sisters. Of course, only the six year old REALLY paid attention!

My 11 year old liked the story and asked if she could read it again.

My 6 year old thought it was a really funny story about a bald cat. (she was never that great at reading comprehension :P) She was also quite confused with her first *series* experience and was a bit bewildered about the cliffhanger at the end! Maybe she won’t share her mom’s love of series…although she did want to read the next one, so maybe she will.

Overall I thought it was a good story that had great messages hidden throughout. From adopting a stray to family helping each other.

I think any child would love getting to know Booker and the family, as well as figuring out the mystery of why Booker is bald?
Just watch out for the surprise ending!

Where to begin? This is very well written novel about what “could” come to pass.
Although it IS a fictional tale, it has it’s roots in possibility.

Cliffson and his family are caught up in the downfall of America. The Chinese Government has had enough with America’s debt and inability to pay it back.
They come and physically take valuables right out of American homes.

The MOST valuable things they claim are young men. They enslave them and use them for their own purposes.
Cliffson is bound and determined to save his family and his two sons, however one of his sons is captured before he can get home.

I personally loved this book. I tend to agree with the author on most of his points (your experience may vary). I DO think that anyone, no matter what they personally think, could learn a lot from this book.

I don’t want to give a spoiler, but let’s just say you will need a bunch of tissues at the end of this book.

BLURB:

It hadn’t seemed possible that a president whose policies had impoverished millions could be reelected. It was the waning years of the American empire and the liberties represented in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were a fading memory. The government monitored every aspect of American life, and the drones buzzing overhead served as a constant reminder, but it was the governments reckless spending that brought the nation to its knees.

Now, the economy is in ruin, and the president’s European style welfare state stands at the brink of collapse. The United States is unable to repay its debts. China has come seeking payment in real assets, and they mean business. Chaos reigns; power has been cut; select cities have been decimated by nuclear bombs; and burned out houses occupy neighborhoods like rotting teeth in the mouth of a crack addict. What was new is now old and what was old is now new again.

Cliffson Lang’s son attempts to escape the fires and mobs overrunning the city of Seattle. When Cliffson is called away to help, his other son is kidnapped by occupying forces and placed in a work camp. Truth’s Blood is the Lang family’s story of survival at a time when government dependency must be replaced by self-reliance. As the United States experiences the disintegration of society and foreign occupation, their challenge verges on the impossible.

Book Review! “Reaper 6” by Andrew J. Rafkin

“Reaper 6” is the untold (until now!) story of Larry Fitzgerald.  He served in the Vietnam war starting at a very young age.
In fact, by the time he finished his THIRD tour he was only in his early twenties.

He was in the Special Units and was taken from an innocent boy and trained to do many unsavory things for the government.

The icing on the cake? They were all top secret missions so it was as if he didn’t exist at all.

I don’t want to give away to much of what happens to Larry, but this is a pretty amazing, untold story. I have read several books about the Vietnam war and none of them read like this.

I also liked how it went into what happened to Larry AFTER he came home. It seems the *true battle* starts after the fighting ends….far to many times.

Overall it is definitely worth reading and I am sure I will be reading it again some day.

BLURB:

A Top Secret Story of Unparalleled Heroism

Staff Sergeant Larry FitzGerald, aka “Reaper 6,” of the U.S. Army Special Forces, led a special Black Ops team deployed to Vietnam in 1965.

He reported to only two men: General Westmoreland and General Abrams, who were in command of the U.S. Armed Forces. His first assignment—a suicidal mission to assassinate four enemy generals in Laos who were planning the 1967 Tet invasion—was never disclosed to the media or the public.

General Westmoreland stated that Sergeant FitzGerald deserved the Medal of Honor, and nine additional Purple Hearts, but unfortunately, most of his missions were conducted across the fence of South Vietnam, in Cambodia, Laos, and North Vietnam. In fact, all of his missions were classified, clandestine, and denied. They have not been disclosed until now.

Reaper 6 is the only biography of this extraordinary soldier’s life, capturing the very sights, sounds, and smells of the Vietnam War. Today, Larry is the proverbial “last man standing” of 89 souls who went where lesser soldiers shouldn’t dare.

Book Review! “No More Butterflies” by Claire Smith

Wow – this book is really hard to explain without giving away to much.

This book ultimately revolves around four people. Emma and Jack; Helen and Sam.

Sam is desperately in love with Emma, but she ends up marrying one of his best friends, Jack.

Sam then ends up moving to get away from the pain of not being with Emma and runs into the controlling and manipulative women named Helen who he starts to date.

This story has so many ups and downs, and even if you are not a victim of abuse it is well worth a read. It really goes to show that domestic abuse doesn’t always *look* the way it is portrayed. The abuser can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Lastly, the ending to the book was ahhhhhh-mazing.
This book was at a solid 3, maybe 4 stars before I got to the last 1/4 of the book.
It is an ending to rival the ending of the Notebook. Totally different, but still just as much of a tearjerker.

I will definitely be suggesting this book to friends!

BLURB:

A surprisingly uplifting psychological drama with dark moments and romantic overtones. Dealing with the subjects of domestic psychological, physical and sexual abuse and the lasting damage these do to their victims, it covers twelve years in the lives of two initially unconnected girls, Emma and Helen, both the victims of some form of abuse and the very different consequences this abuse has to both their lives.
There are some dark and tragic moments as Emma stumbles from one emotional or physical disaster to the next from the ages of sixteen to twenty-eight. Ultimately it is the realisation of all her clichéd romantic dreams which provides her with the trigger she desperately needs to enable her to take control of her own life. It makes her realise the only way to no longer be a victim is to stop relying on others for emotional and physical stability and to stand on her own two feet. It gives her the courage to face her fears and to do what is right for her daughter.
Helen, on the other hand, uses abuse as a weapon with which to defend herself from a world she can not understand. In reality the abuse she has suffered is difficult to define and the line between legitimate psychological damage and inbuilt character traits is blurred.
The two girls lives come together with devastating effects.
